New York City native John Neves is in his 19th year with the athletic program.

John is a 1994 graduate of Manhattan College, where he earned a B.A. in Communications.

As an undergraduate, he interned during his junior year for the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and the Manhattan College Sports Information Department, where he eventually worked as a student assistant during his senior year.

Upon graduation, he interned twice for the National Basketball Association (NBA), worked part-time in the newsroom at ESPN SportsTicker, and worked for the New York Yankees as a Media Relations Assistant during the entire 1996 World Championship season at Yankee Stadium. 

He then joined the New York/New Jersey MetroStars of Major League Soccer (MLS) in 1997, spending six years in that organization, beginning as a Communications Coordinator and eventually reaching the title of Director of Communications.

He left in May 2003, and became a Press Officer for the popular ChampionsWorld Series Soccer Tour, overseeing the press operation efforts for summer exhibition games during 2003 and 2004. 

He worked prominent soccer exhibitions such as Celtic v. Boca Juniors (Cleveland), Juventus v. Barcelona (Boston), AC Milan v. Barcelona (Washington, DC), Celtic v. Chelsea (Seattle), Liverpool v. Celtic (Hartford), FC Porto v. Galatasaray (NY/NJ), and the prestigious Italian Super Cup featuring Juventus v. AC Milan (NY/NJ).

During August of 2004 (Athens Olympic) and 2008 (Beijing Olympics), he also worked as a statistician/researcher for the national NBC-TV Olympic soccer telecasts. John worked alongside prominent soccer announcers JP Dellacamera, Marcelo Balboa, Brandi Chastain and Lori Walker (Ohio State Head Coach).

John was first appointed as the part-time sports information director in November of 2003, and was eventually hired in the role of full-time sports information director in September of 2004.

He is a member of various sports information organizations, such as EASTComm and CoSIDA.

He is also currently on the voting committee for the United States Basketball Writers Association (U.S.B.W.A.) Div. III National Player of the Week and serves as the Vice President of the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Sport information Directors.
