Tim Shanahan

Tim Shanahan

Tim Shanahan is in his first season as assistant coach.

He is no stranger to CUNYAC having previously served as Head Coach at the College of Staten Island and most recently assistant coach at Hunter College.

Although many years a player and then coaching volunteer, his first official foray into the coaching ranks was in 2004, when he became an assistant boy’s high school basketball coach at Highland Park High School in Highland Park, New Jersey. Aside from the hardwood experience, Shanahan was also instrumental in counseling his former players, and his unique talents at scouting opposition was his specialty working under Head Coach Tom Sclafani.

The same uniqueness followed him to Brooklyn, New York, where Shanahan made his next coaching stop at New Utrecht High School.  Shanahan helped guide the team to its first postseason trip in over a decade, and the coach saw an increased role in team practice organization and conditioning efforts.

Having spent the previous five years as CSI’s assistant coach, Tim Shanahan took over the reigns of Staten Island in time for the 2012-13 season. The results were immediate, and CSI scored a pair of winning seasons and a 19-win season in his last year complete with a CUNYAC Regular Season Championship and ECAC playoff berth.

Prior to his stop at CSI, Shanahan served as citywide Major of Family Court for the City of New York for 21 years and retired from duty in 2006.
