Softball Wins CUNYAC Doubleheader Against York

The softball team won both ends of a conference doubleheader against York College on an overcast and windy afternoon at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.

The Bearcats pounded out 20 runs on 14 hits in the first game, including 16 after the first two innings, for the 20-5 victory in five innings.

Jordyn Schwartz started the scoring with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and later came around to score on an error for the first run. She finished the game scoring four total runs.

Six players had at least two hits, while Julia Cuttone, Carly Quint and Amber Rivera scored three runs each.

Quint, who also homered twice, started on the mound with a quick 1-2-3 first inning and Cuttone saw her first action of the season pitching the last four innings with six strikeouts.

Mia Faddah had a homer in the first inning.

The Bearcats continued their momentum in the second game jumping out to a 13-0 lead after two innings en route to the 18-1 victory in five innings.

Kaitlyn Belfield scored three runs and Meenakshi Mugrai had a grand slam in the big seven-run first inning.

For the second time this season, Megan Bell led off the first inning with a homer.

Caroline Gallagher took control on the mound from start to finish with a three-hitter and seven strikeouts in limiting York to only 18 batters.

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday with a make up doubleheader at SUNY Old Westbury.
