Softball Sweeps Mount Saint Vincent

The Bearcats won both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against the Dolphins from the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday afternoon at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.

The Bearcats posted scores of 4-1 and 6-2 for the victorious sweep.

In the first game, the Dolphins from the Skyline Conference struck first in their opening at-bat for the early 1-0 lead, but they would not get near home plate the rest of the game as Carly Quint pitched a complete game two-hitter with seven strikeouts for the 4-1 victory.

For the third time this season, Megan Bell hit a homer leading off for the Bearcats in the first inning. That homer quickly tied the game 1-1.

Quint smacked an RBI double in the third inning for a 2-1 lead and Mia Faddah later hit a two-run homer for a 4-1 lead that stood in the end as the final result.

Bell (single, double), Quint (double, triple), and Faddah (homer, single) each finished with two hits in the game-one victory.

The Bearcats took control in the second game jumping out to a 4-0 lead after four innings en route to winning 6-2. Caroline Gallagher won with a line of 5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2ER, 1 BB, and 5 K for her sixth win of the season. Quint earned the save with one strikeout.

Quint started the scoring with a two run homer in the first inning. Bell had an RBI single in the second inning and Amber Rivera scored on an error in the fourth for the 4-0 advantage.

The Dolphins did not go away quietly and scored twice in the fifth inning to cut the score to 4-2. The Bearcats added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning to help finish off the 6-2 game two victory.

The team will return to action on Thursday with a non-conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's University of Brooklyn. First pitch at Randall's Island Field #12 is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
