2024 Baruch Softball Bearcats Appreciation Day

Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Celebrates Bearcats Appreciation Day! Sweep Brooklyn in CUNYAC DH

The softball team had an exciting and fun Saturday honoring five players, winning twice against Brooklyn College, and seeing a player reach a pitching milestone.

The day began with the Bearcats honoring five players - Megan Bell, Meenakshi Mugrai, Carly Quint, Amber Rivera, and Jordyn Schwartz - on Bearcats Appreciation Day as they were playing in their last regular-season home game. Each player received flowers, mementos, and terrific art posters of themselves all in front of their family and friends.

The Bearcats then played the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College in a CUNYAC home doubleheader at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.

Carly Quint pitched the complete game one 4-3 victory with two strikeouts against a strong Bulldogs squad who scored first for a first-inning 1-0 lead. The Bearcats' bats came alive in the fourth inning with four runs thanks to an RBI triple by Milagros Arias, an RBI ground out by Amber Rivera, and an exciting two-run homer by Jordyn Schwartz for the 4-1 lead after four innings.

The Bulldogs rallied with two runs of their own in the fifth inning to get as close as 4-3, but Quint shut them down the rest of the game for the victory.

In the second game, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-1 lead early, forcing the Bearcats to play catch up.

Bridget Campanelli tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning with an infield single that scored Mia Faddah. The Bulldogs went ahead later 3-1 but RBI singles by Campanelli and Schwartz tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning.

The score stayed 3-3 until the last inning. Julia Cuttone reached base on a single and Faddah then hit a two-run, walk-off homer for the 5-3 victory.

Quint recorded her 300th career strikeout in the second-game victory for a current total of 302. She joins current assistant coach Nicole Flint (439) and Andrea Tepfer (465) as the only Baruch pitchers to record 300+ strikeouts.

The Bearcats and Head Coach Charles Martinez will next turn their attention to the CUNYAC Championship Double-Elimination Tournament that will take place this Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10 on the campus of Brooklyn College. The Bearcats will start play against Hunter College on Thursday at 1:15 p.m.
