Hartford Narrowly Defeats Bearcats in Exciting Defensive Contest (53-50)

The Bearcats and the University of Hartford played a very competitive and defensive non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The visiting Hawks from Connecticut jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the opening minute but the Bearcats scored the next 10 points to set up what would be a back-and-forth contest that went down to the wire.

The Hawks led 50-46 with 3:18 remaining, but a free throw by D'Andre McRae and a three by Mia Castillo tied the contest at 50 with 2:37 left.

The Bearcats kept battling in the final two minutes but three free throws by Hartford and several defensive stops helped the former Division I program to pull out a 53-50 narrow victory in the first meeting between the two teams.

Neither team shot the ball well this afternoon.

Castillo (21 points, 5 assists, 4 steals) and Elissa Leung (17 points) carried the Bearcats offensively. McRae grabbed 12 rebounds and Precious Mitchell was pivotal with six points and nine rebounds.

Adrianna McCoy was tops for Hartford (3-0) from the CCC Conference with 14 points.
