Bearcats Lose Uptown Battle to John Jay

The women's basketball team lost 74-61 to the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on Tuesday night in the Hell's Kitchen section of Manhattan.

The visiting Bearcats started strong leading 15-9 after the first quarter and 32-31 at halftime for a solid first-half display.

John Jay came back and took their first lead of the game in the third quarter on a layup for 33-32. The two teams exchanged leads over the next few minutes but John Jay took control scoring 11 straight points to jump ahead 47-36.

The Bearcats kept battling and got as close as 47-41, but John Jay finished the third quarter leading by eight points (54-46) and then started the fourth scoring the first seven points in a game-busting run to lead 61-46.

The Bearcats could only get as close as 65-56 and fell at the end 74-61.

Rookie Madison Thornton-Lewis had a career night with 19 points, five 3-pointers, and nine rebounds in her second career start.  

Elissa Leung had 12 points and five assists, while Mia Castillo finished with a double-double of 10 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. D'Andre McRae totaled eight points and nine rebounds.

Chayanne Kelly led John Jay with 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
