Hawks Defeat Bearcats in CUNYAC Clash

The women's basketball team lost a close contest to Hunter College, 69-63, in the Battle of Lexington on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.

The result marked the second straight season where the Bearcats won at Hunter's Homecoming in December, but the Hawks won at the Battle of Lexington.

The rivalry was decided in the final minutes. The Bearcats led 45-44 at the end of the third quarter on a layup by D'Andre McRae, but Hunter quickly took back the lead at the start of the fourth quarter on a jumper by Erin Cosio.

The visiting Hawks held that lead the rest of the fourth quarter, including leading by seven points twice, the last at 66-59 with under one minute remaining. 

The Bearcats did not go away quietly as Mia Castillo quickly scored on a rare four-point play (three pointer plus the foul) to cut the deficit to 67-63 with 52 seconds left.

Unfortunately, the visiting Hawks made three of four free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the 69-63 victory.

The contest tonight featured two of the three best scorers in NCAA Division III with Mia Castillo scoring 41 points, while the Hawks' Alexa Charles finished with 26 points.

Elissa Leung had eight points and D'Andre McRae had seven points and 11 rebounds.

The Bearcats will return to the court tomorrow night for a 6:00 p.m. rescheduled contest at York College in Jamaica, New York.
