Softball Splits Doubleheader Against St. Joseph's (LI)

(Due to technical issues, the full game 2 box score is not yet available)

The Bearcats and Golden Eagles from St. Joseph's University of Patchogue played a doubleheader split on Wednesday afternoon at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.

The Bearcats won the opener 8-0 after a dominant pitching performance by Carly Quint but fell in the second game 6-5.

After a 30-minute delay due to Lightning in the area, the two teams started playing the first game and the Bearcats set the tone early with four runs in the first inning thanks to RBI singles by Mia Faddah, Leilani Jimenez, Milagros Arias, and Grace Osuch.

They added a run in the second inning on an RBI walk by Bridget Campanelli and three more runs in the fourth on an RBI ground out by Julia Cuttone and a two-run homer by Quint for the commanding 8-0 victory.

On the mound, Quint threw a 2-hitter with five strikeouts for the complete game shutout.

In the second game, the two teams were tied 4-4 after four innings but the visiting Golden Eagles later took the lead in the sixth inning 6-5.

The Bearcats threatened in their final at-bat but came up short in a 6-5 loss.

Megan Bell was busy again batting 2-for-3, with a three-run homer and two runs scored.

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday with a CUNYAC home doubleheader against rival Hunter College at Flowers Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
