Softball Splits CUNYAC Doubleheader Against Rival Hunter

The softball team and Hawks of Hunter College played to a CUNYAC doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.

The Bearcats won the first game 6-3, but Hunter won the second 8-2.

The Bearcats struck first in the opening contest with Mia Faddah coming around to score after a Hunter fielding error for 1-0 in the second inning.

Hunter took the lead in the fourth inning with three runs for 3-1, but the Bearcats quickly tied it in the fifth via a two-run homer by Carly Quint. They added three more runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Megan Bell and a two-run single by Julia Cuttone for the 6-3 result.

The homer against Hunter was  the 14th of Quint's career tying the all-time team record. On the mound, she pitched a complete game win of seven innings with five strikeouts, which included retiring all six batters in the final two innings to seal the important conference victory.

In the second game, the Bearcats struggled on the field with five errors as Hunter jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Bearcats quickly cut the score to 3-2 in the second inning on an RBI triple by Bridget Campanelli and an RBI single by Grace Osuch.

The score stayed 3-2 until Hunter scored three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning to split the doubleheader.

The Bearcats will next prepare for a busy week of doubleheaders starting on Tuesday against the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
