Baseball Starts Their CUNYAC Schedule Sweeping DH at Lehman

The Bearcats were on a roll Saturday afternoon winning 6-2 and 17-2 at Lehman College.

The bats came alive scoring 23 total runs on 26 hits in the doubleheader sweep.

In the opener, Joseph Cocozza started with RBI singles in the first and third innings for the early 2-0 lead.

The Bearcats added four more runs in the sixth inning on a hit-by-pitch RBI by Kenneth Pastrana, an RBI ground out by Nicholas Benedetto, and a two-run single by Christopher Petrillo to jump ahead 6-0.

The Lightning managed to get two runs during their final at-bat but Jeremy Ramirez slammed the door to clinch the victory with a complete game of 7IP, 8H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB and 9K for the victory.

Roy Longarzo scored twice and Cocozza also added two stolen bases in the game one victory.

Eli Fermin was tops for Lehman batting 3-for-4 with two RBI. 

The Bearcats started on fire in the second game scoring seven runs on five hits for the early 7-0 lead in the first inning. They added two more runs in the second and five in the seventh inning for the 17-2 win.

Cocozza was busy again batting 4-for-5, with four runs scored and three RBI. Pastrana came up big batting 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Cocozza, Pastrana  and Tejada, Jr also smack a home run this afternoon.

Robert Raman earned the win with only four hits allowed and five strikeouts. Ryan Foerst and Maxwell Murray came later in quiet relief to help clinch the victory.

Fermin was tops again for Lehman batting 2-for-3, with a run scored.

Overall, the Bearcats totaled 35 runs during their three contests on Friday (against St. Joseph's of Brooklyn) and Saturday (against Lehman). They will resume action on Tuesday with a non-conference home contest against the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
