Baseball Celebrates Bearcats Appreciation Day, Honor Patterson With Special T-Shirt

The baseball team finished their CUNYAC regular season schedule on Friday with a home doubleheader against CCNY.

The Bearcats put up a tough battle but lost both tightly contested games 8-3 and 5-3.

CCNY (10-2) wins the CUNYAC regular season title in first place, while the Bearcats (7-5) finish second, John Jay third, and Lehman fourth. The Bearcats as the second-seed will play third-seed John Jay on Tuesday, May 7, at 3:30 p.m., in a first-round playoff of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament.

The Bearcats started slow in the first game falling behind 2-1 after the first inning and 5-1 after the third. The visiting Beavers put the game out of reach with three runs in the seventh inning for the 8-3 win. The Bearcats scored their three runs via a Joseph Bello RBI walk, an RBI ground out by Nicholas Benedetto, and an RBI double by Joseph Cocozza.

In the second game, the Bearcats controlled the first six innings leading 3-2, but the Beavers rallied in their final at-bat with three runs for the victory that helped them clinch first place.    

Christopher Petrillo and Benedetto had two hits each in the second game.  

Prior to the game, the team honored Maxwell Murray, Robert Raman, and Julian Diaz on Bearcats' Appreciation Day.

The team also recognized Steven Patterson who passed away earlier this year. Steven's dad threw out the first pitch and the baseball team wore special t-shirts in honor of Steven's memory (see instagram post below).
