Bearcats Drop Home Opener to SUNY Maritime

The Bearcats lost 7-3 to the Privateers of SUNY Maritime in their home opener on Friday afternoon at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.

The two teams were nearly identical in hits but the visiting Privateers from the Skyline Conference took advantage of three errors for the victory.

The Bearcats tied the game (1-1) in the first inning after a Pedro Tejada, Jr. sacrifice fly brought home Roy Longarzo.

The Privateers scored in the second, fifth, seventh and eighth innings for a 7-1 lead.

The Bearcats did not go away quietly and scored twice on RBI singles by Kenneth Pastrana and Leo DeRisi for a 7-3 score after eight innings.

They managed to get two more runners on base in their last at-bat but couldn't push through more runs for a tough loss against a strong offensive team that a few days ago smacked a school record eight homers in a contest.

Longarzo, DeRisi, and Joseph Cocozza had two hits each during the mostly sunny and warm afternoon in New Rochelle.

Matt Demme (6.1 IP, 5k) earned his third win of the young season for the Privateers who are now 6-2 overall.
