Gothic Knights Down Bearcats in Non-Conference Action

The baseball team lost a high-scoring 11-6 contest to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University on a breezy Tuesday afternoon at Lasorda Legacy Park on Long Island.

The game started with lots of scoring with NJCU scoring three times in the top of the first, but the Bearcats came right back in their bottom half with a two-run homer by Joseph Cocozza to cut the score to 3-2.

NJCU added a run in the third inning but the Bearcats tied it in the bottom of the third on a Cocozza RBI single and a RBI double by Pedro Tejada, Jr. for the 4-4 score.

NCJU took control in the fifth scoring five runs on four hits and two errors to jump ahead 9-4. They added two more runs in the seventh to lead 11-4.

The Bearcats did not go quietly and scored twice in the seventh inning on an RBI ground out by Christopher Petrillo and an RBI single by Tejada, Jr. to get as close as 11-6, which ended as the final score.

Cocozza led the Bearcats' batting 3-for-4, with a homer, double, three RBI, and two runs scored.

Tejada, Jr. batted 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Roy Longarzo had two hits and CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Kenneth Pastrana had a double in the tough loss. Nicholas Benedetto scored two runs.

Four different NJCU players had at least two hits and were led by Ray Gelok who finished with four RBI.
