Baseball Drop CUNYAC Doubleheader

The baseball team lost a CUNYAC doubleheader to the Beavers of CCNY on Sunday afternoon at Salesian High School in New Rochelle.

The two teams were initially scheduled to play on Saturday but the doubleheader was postponed for 24 hours to Sunday as a result of recent weather and field conditions.

The visiting Bearcats started the first game leading 2-1 as Julian Diaz had a sacrifice fly RBI in the first inning and Benjamin Luciano hit his second homer of the season in the second inning for the early 2-1 advantage.

The Beavers tied it in the third inning and the 2-2 score stayed until the sixth inning when the Bearcats jumped ahead 4-2. Joseph Bello scored on a balk and Roy Longarzo smacked an RBI double to bring home Luciano.

The Beavers took the lead for good in the sixth inning scoring four runs on six hits. The Bearcats threatened in their final at-bat as Pedro Tejada, Jr. doubled but could not push across any more runs in the tough 6-4 loss.

Luciano led the Bearcats at the plate batting 2-for-2, with a homer, two runs scored and one RBI. Tyler DiBlasi led the Beavers batting 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

In the second game, the first two innings were quiet until CCNY scored a run in the third inning and added five in the fourth inning to break the game wide open en route to the 9-2 win.

The Bearcats scored their first run in the fourth on a Bello RBI single to plate Tejada. They scored their second inning later on an RBI single by Joseph Cocozza to bring home Nicholas Benedetto.

Benedetto was tops at the plate batting 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kevin Budzinski led the Beavers batting 2-for-3, with two runs scored, and one RBI.

The Bearcats will hit the diamond again on Tuesday with a road contest against St. Joseph's University of Brooklyn.
