Baseball Rally Falls Short in One-Run Loss to St. Joseph's (BK)

The baseball team lost a tough 7-6 contest to St. Joseph's University of Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon.

The host Bears scored first in the second inning but the visiting Bearcats tied it on Roy Longarzo's solo homer in the third inning.

The Bearcats took a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning on another big hit by Longarzo who smacked a two-out, two-run double to score Kenneth Pastrana and Benjamin Luciano. Longarzo would score the fourth run on a wild pitch that advanced him to third and a catching error enabled him to score.

The Bears battled back to tie the game with a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning. They broke the 4-4 tie with three more runs in the eighth inning to lead 7-4.

The Bearcats did not go away quietly in their final at-bat and made lots of noise to rally back.

Longarzo continued his monster game with a two-run homer to cut the score to 7-6. Joseph Cocozza and Pedro Tejada, Jr. got on base but the Bearcats could not push across the tying run losing 7-6.

Longarzo finished batting 4-for-5, with two homers, a double, five total RBI, and three runs scored. Cocozza and Tejada, Jr. finished with two hits each.

Michael Gardener led the Bears batting 3-for-4, with two doubles and an RBI.

The Bearcats will resume action on Friday with a CUNYAC road doubleheader against John Jay College. The first pitch at Maimonides Park in Coney Island is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
