Baseball Splits Friday DH Against John Jay

The Bearcats and John Jay went on to split a CUNYAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Maimonides Park on Coney Island.

The two teams will quickly resume action again tomorrow with Baruch as the home team in a CUNYAC doubleheader.

In game one, Jeremy Ramirez pitched the shutout allowing only one hit (double in 2nd inning) with 10 strikeouts over seven innings for the impressive complete game victory.

The bats came alive early this afternoon as Joseph Bello smacked a two-run single in the first inning.

The team added three more runs in the second inning behind a Roy Longarzo RBI triple, a Pedro Tejada, Jr. RBI single, and a sacrifice fly RBI by Julian Diaz for the 5-0 lead after two innings.

They added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning on a two-run double by Diaz for the commanding 7-0 lead and final result.

Joseph Cocozza batted 3-for-4, with two runs scored in the victory. Diaz finished with three RBI.

In the second game, John Jay won in a ninth-inning walk-off 7-6.

The Bearcats started strong first scoring two runs in their opening at-bat as Longarzo scored on a wild pitch and Bello hit a sacrifice fly RBI.

They built the lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning after a Tejada, Jr. three-run homer.

The Bloodhounds were quiet with no runs through the first four innings but their bats came alive in the fifth inning with four runs and three hits to cut the score to 5-4.

Christopher Petrillo added a Bearcat run with a sacrifice fly RBI in the sixth inning for a 6-4 score.

John Jay tied the game in their bottom seventh with a two-run single by Michael Mauro to force extra-innings and won in the extra inning ninth on an RBI single by Santo Anzalone.

Bello finished the second game with three hits and Petrillo scored two runs in the tough doubleheader split.

There will be two more games tomorrow against John Jay at the Bronx Community College baseball field. The first pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
